With a small skip in your step and an upbeat attitude, you tidied up your house.  Everything was neatly put away and all previously visible dust was swept into nonexistence.  Your heart was pumping a bit quicker today than usual, due to not only excitement but the little bug you have come to know and love.  Nervous butterflies made your stomach their home and only grew more restless as the hand on your clock kept advancing into the future.  The familiar beeping sound of your microwave timer hit your ears and alerted your body to react.  As you rushed out of the television room and into your kitchen another smile made a prominent appearance on your lips.  You pulled out a bowl and prepared for the arrival of your.... friend.  Yeah, you could call him a friend.

Leon was more than ordinary, at least in your opinion.  Others had a single image of him, and that being cool, collected, perfectly distanced, and fashionable.  Technically, the hard to approach popular guy.  And through that impression and atmosphere he gave off, he was usually avoided.  You included, had kept your distance from the guy until you were introduced through a mutual friend.  Emil had warned you time after time that he was strange, clingy, and liked to pull pranks.  Personally you couldn’t see it.... but that changed quickly.  After being introduced you hit it off with each other.  Over time you began to see what Emil was talking about and grew rather attached to that side of him.

For awhile the three of you hung out and were inseparable.  But after a bit more time, it got the point where the two of you were hanging around each other without your Scandinavian friend.  Despite your closeness, you had only learned little bits of information about your friend.  He was surprisingly secretive and disclosed, you supposed that something in the rumor had to be true otherwise the gossip itself would have never come to light.  You didn't mind though, it added an undertone of mystery that you had come to love.

The familiar chime of your doorbell whisked you away from your unconscious daydreaming and brought your mind to alert attention.  Step by step you inched towards the door, completely aware of the abnormal feelings that spun around inside of you, supplying nervous bugs to every crevice of your brain.  Painting your most normal smile and expression of welcome on your face, you opened the door.  Leon was wearing an outfit you had never seen before, which was normal, given that he never wore the same outfit twice, and had his earbuds still blasting foreign music into his ears.  He pulled out one bud and greeted you with the nod of his head.

“Hey.” Leon stated

“Hello, nice to see you.  Come on in!” You replied as you side stepped to hold the door open for him.

Leon strolled past you and into your home.  He knew his way around and so you walked behind him on your way to the television.  Tonight the two of you planned to watch a scary movie.  The point of which being, you trying to get close to him while he is scared.  Though, you were unsure when he chose the movie.  Given that the title was “Gin gwai” or “The Eye” you had a few doubts on the film.  But when you asked Leon to hang out and watch a movie, he said that he got to chose which one the two of you watched.

“It’s really clean in here.” He stated, “That’s, like, strange for you.”

You let out a shaky laugh, “Is it now?”

“Hmm, let’s just start the movie.”

While you took a seat on the couch, Leon popped the movie in and turned the television on.  In a matter of seconds it was running and he was sitting next to you.  His stoic face kept directed at the screen the entire time, but you couldn’t help but steal a few glances at him as the movie continued.  He really kept a straight expression the entire time.  It was kind of ruining your plan....  And due to this little dilemma, you barely watched the movie at all.  There were a few scenes that you had the ‘pleasure’ of seeing, but your heart beat barely accelerated.  If it did, it was because you had been looking at Leon beside you and he almost caught you doing so.

The movie continued and about half way through you ran out of popcorn.  Since you were in the comfort of your own home and not at a movie theatre, you decided that it would be logical to use that convenience to your advantage and get some more.  Popcorn was meant for movies!  You didn’t even have to look while eating it, you could keep your eyes on whatever you were watching.  You leaned over to Leon and pulled one of his earbuds out.

“Do you want any more popcorn?” You asked

“I suppose, but you didn’t have to take that out of my ear.  I wasn’t listening to anything you know.” He replied

“Then why have them in?”

Before he had the chance to answer your rhetorical question, you swifty stood and left the room.  Grabbing bags of popcorn from your cupboard and opening the microwave was done in a flash and you were soon leaning against the counter and waiting for the timer to countdown to zero.  Tapping your foot slightly, you thought to yourself.  Maybe inviting him over for a movie wasn’t that great of an idea.  It didn’t get you any closer to your ultimate goal, which was getting him to open up.  Maybe if the two of you had hung out earlier in the day and perhaps gone to a festival?  That way you would be able to talk to him and not just stare at a screen.

You let out a sigh and looked over your shoulder.  The television room was still fully lit and you could barely make out the patterns of artificial light on the wall directly across the television.  For some reason Leon had insisted on keeping the lights on, just another thing for you to be curious about.  You just wished that he would open up!  You closed your eyes in frustration.  The background noises of the film and your running microwave consumed your thoughts.  But then they suddenly just..... stopped.

Your eyes opened due to surprise and you got even more of it.  Your home was enveloped in darkness.  The microwave was no longer running and the sounds from the television were gone.  You couldn’t see in front of you and were left staring blankly into space.  The first thing you did was figure out the situation.  It was most likely a blackout, the whole block was most likely pitch black.  The second thing you did was listen a bit closer to your surroundings.  There was no noise, just as it was when the lights first shut off.  But now you remembered that you had your friend over.

“Leon?” You called out

There was no response.  You raised an eyebrow and turned to the direction of which the room was.  Following along the counter you walked out of the kitchen and used the wall as a reference point.

“Leon?” When met with silence once again you added onto your initial call of his name, “If this is one of your pranks, it isn’t funny.”

When greeted with silence, again, you decided that something must be wrong.  You knew that Leon was one to often pull pranks and such, but you had only ever been a bystander to such events.  When he set fireworks off at Arthur's house, was an example.  He merely brought you along with him and had you drive the get-away car.  There were multiple instances where you were even considered an accomplice, but you had never been on the receiving end of his pranks.

You finally found yourself back in the television room.  By now your eyes had begun adjusting to the dark and you could make out bold outlines.  And you also picked up a small noise.  A slight whimpering sound and trembling whine could be detected by your currently enhanced hearing.  Slowly, so that you wouldn’t trip over anything, you made your way towards the couch. You couldn’t make out any outline where Leon had previously been sitting, but you did noticed that your couch seemed to be lumpier than usual.  Calmly and carefully you reached your hand out and touched the bump in the blankets.  The slight reaction you got from it was enough to confirm your suspicions.

“Leon, I know you’re here.” You stated, “What are you doing?”

When you once again got no response despite you talking directly to him, you sat down in annoyance.  Feeling around to his side of the couch you found the blanket that was covering him.  You pulled the blanket and revealed his trembling body in a protective position.  His hands were tucking his head into his chest and his legs pulled close to his body.  When he was stripped of the blanket, he tightened his position.

“Hey...” You tried talking to him, “Is something wrong?  Are you hurt?”

His head moved slightly in a denying manner.  You took slight relief that he wasn’t injured, but there was still the problem of him not being responsive.  You had never seen him like this before, not in any situation.  It only took a few moments of reasoning to conclude what was going on.  It wasn't that hard to determine.  He had you keep the lights on during the movie, didn't blink at the scary parts of the film, and yet, when the lights went out you found him like this.  It almost broke your heart seeing him in this condition.  In a bold moment of confidence, you moved closer to him and wrapped the blanket around both of you.  When you got close enough, he also shifted his position and slight sat up.

“_____?” He asked in a soft and almost unheard voice

“What is it?” You replied

“Are the lights back on, can I open my eyes?”

“No, but you can sit up.  If it’s any comfort, I’m right next to you.”

To your surprise, and pleasure, Leon sat up completely and leaned against you.  His arms wrapped tightly around your torso and his head laid in the crook of your neck.  Your face was burning in a million shades of red, and for a feeling like that, you were grateful that Leon couldn’t see you.  It was only when he embraced you that you realized how truly terrified he must have been.  His trembling was enough to get your body to also shake.  In another attempt to comfort him, you also wrapped your arms around him.

Though you weren’t too excited about the circumstances, you were happy that you learned something new about Leon.  You were also sure that the position the two of you were in wouldn’t of ever happened if not for the backout.

“_____?  Are you scared?” Leon asked

“What?  N-No, I’m fine.” You answered

“Are you sure?  Your heart is beating pretty fast.”

“W-What?  Of course I’m sure, you must be imagining it.”

“If you say so....” He sighed, “Like, thanks though.”

Imitating his speech pattern you replied, “It’s like, no problem, I suppose.”

It was a bit difficult to notice, but during your conversation Leon had stopped trembling.  The unsettling feeling of being around him while he was frightened was gone.  In order to preserve this, you attempted more conversation.  Maybe, you could learn a little more about him in the process.

“Was the movie good?” You regretted the question the moment it escaped from your lips

“What do you mean?  You were watching it with me.”

“Yeah, well, I was wondering about your opinion.”

“I... liked it, I suppose.”

You laughed at his response, he was still vague as ever.  Leon pulled himself a little closer to you and squeezed a bit tighter.  The action made you stop laughing and feel concern over his condition again.

“Are you okay?” You asked

“I can’t stand the pitch black.” He mumbled

“The power should turn on soon, and until then.... I’m right here.”

You tighten your hold on him.  You heard a small scoff, Leon’s version of a giggle or laugh.

“For some reason that’s, like, comforting.”

The darkness continued to consume your household, but the two of you remained on the couch and didn’t move.  In the moments you were still attached to Leon, serenity washed over your being.  His hair smelled clean and full of a shampoo you had never experienced before.  His torso was thin but firm and your arms were able to relax while still remaining laced around his back.  You couldn’t help but feel bad, in the moments that Leon was probably most distressed and scared, you felt so calm and content.

Though, it became obvious later when the lights turned on, that Leon must have felt the same way.  As even after his fear and your sanctuary disappeared in a ball of blinding light, the two of you remained in your positions, cradling each other.  This lasted until once again the two of you were thrown into the world darkness.  Though this time, it was illuminated by sweet dreams and the knowing of Leon being right beside you.

I hate that all my 'fluff' stories end up so short.  It was the same way for my Germany story....  grr, I need to fix this problem.  Anyway, this was my first time writing for Hong Kong.... so I hope this worked the way it was supposed to.  I did all the research I could, but sometimes it comes down to experience.  And... I don't have that.

This was a request for :icondeadlykeya-chan19: .  Once again, I'm sorry it took so long.  I hope you like it and this was what you were looking for.

I don't own you or Hetalia.

Hope you enjoy(ed) reading~!
