Literature Text

It started as a walk but soon turned into a run.  You made your way into the market area of town and searched around frantically for the hunters.

But they were no where in sight.

You looked for any sign that they were here.  Mathias’s hair, Berwald, even Lukas.  But they were no where to be seen.

“Did they already leave?” You asked yourself

Even if they did, you still had to deliver the envelope.  You still needed to leave this town.  With a bit of luck you could probably catch up to them, you just had to find out which direction they went.  You headed further south in hope of finding them.  But the south seemed to be the bad part of town.  The further you got the more unsettling the feeling in your stomach became.

The houses were all rotted down and you were beginning to question how these people were able to stay alive with such weather in these living conditions.  The more people you saw the more you wanted to find the Hunters, or even go back to Sadik and Hercules.

The girls were very exposed and some expressions looked so grim it could freeze anyone in place if stared at for too long.  You made a mental note to never dress like they were.

But that wasn't what scared you.  No.  It was the men.  Everywhere you went a new pair of eyes followed.  But your hopes were raised when you saw the end of town approaching.  You would be able to get out of here and meet them on the road.  You picked up your pace and walked happily.  But your hope was replaced with fear when someone grabbed your arm.

You looked back and saw a very large man.  His face was red signifying he was drunk.  His grip was strong and you couldn't break away, you were sure that it was going to bruise.  His breathe was putrid and found its way into your senses.  The combination of fear and the smell was enough to make your stomach churn.  But you tried to put on a brave face.

“Let go.” You stated

“Why should I?” He asked, “It’s not often that we get a pure woman such as yourself around here.”

You tried harder to pull away.  But he began to drag you back towards the middle of town.  Despite your struggling no one helped.  Something welled up in your chest.  It felt like something was trying to break free from within you.  At first it felt unnatural, but then it started to feel familiar.  It was an enormous amount of energy.  It was like nothing you could recall from before, you needed to do something to release it.  The only thing you could think to do with that energy was scream.  You thought it would be loud, but nothing prepared you for what was about to happen.

The high pitched ringing that erupted from your mouth soon filled the air and turned into a frightening shriek.  The man immediately let go of your arm and dropped to his knees.  He used his hands to cover his ears, but it didn't work.  The high pitched scream set something off and he dropped to the ground.  He didn't move.  You brought yourself to stop the sound after the unknown energy was gone.  You grabbed your chest and throat, which were both on fire.  You were too concerned to noticed that everyone on the area were now 'hopefully' unconscious.  Tears ran down your cheeks as you slowly walked away.  You didn't know what you did, but it definitely wasn't normal.  You continued to try and make your way to the edge of town when someone grabbed your already bruised arm.  You didn't have the energy to anything and just let your arm go limp.

“(f/n)!  Are you okay?” A familiar voice asked

You turned around to see Emil holding your arm.  Behind him were the other Hunters.  You let a small smile form.

“I thought you guys left.” You stated

“We couldn't leave you here.” Mathias explained, “There’s no way someone like you is from somewhere like here.”

“Oh good.  I was about to leave, hoping I would run into you.”

“Is that so?”

You looked over the familiar faces and smiled.  That feeling of relief let your heart rate slow down and you felt all energy that you had previously had, leave.  You knees wobbled and you felt like collapsing.

“(f/n), are you okay?” Tino asked

You didn't have a chance to reply because Berwald bent down and picked you up.  His chest was large and you didn't have any fear of falling from his grasp.  Instead you let yourself relax.

“Thank you.” You stated

“Welcome.” He replied

Tino walked in front of Berwald and faced you.

“Are you ready to get going?” he asked

“You’ll let me come?”

“Of course!”

“That’s great news.” You replied, “Because I actually need to get to the Eastern Planes as well.”

“Is that so?” Mathias asked

You nodded your head.  The group began to leave the village, Berwald kept a firm but comfortable grip on you as he trudged through the snow.  You felt like falling asleep.  Your eyelids were heavy and you had no idea why.  The only extreme thing that you had done was trying to break free from that man.

That’s when your thoughts turned dark.  What had happened to that man?  You remembered the noise that emanated from you.  The high pitched screeching was still there.  How was it even possible for you to make such a sound?

And as if Lukas could read your thoughts; he brought it up.

“Did you guys hear the shrieking?” He asked

“Sure did.  I could feel my eardrums ringing.” Mathias replied

“Do you know what it was?”

“No.”

You saw Lukas hitting Mathias on the head.  He clutched it in fake pain.

“Why did you do that?” He asked

“Because you’re an idiot.” Lukas replied

Your eyelids soon closed, trapping you in darkness.  Though you didn't fall asleep.  You kept listening to Lukas and Mathias.

“I don’t understand.” Mathias continued

“That’s why you're an idiot.”

“Just tell me.”

“That’s the sound a dragon makes when it’s cornered.”

Mathias was silent for a while.

“So there was a dragon?” He asked

“Yes.”

“In the town?”

“Yes.”

“And we missed it?”

You heard Lukas sigh before Emil picked up on the conversation.

“The dragon was in human form.” He clarified

“Oh.”

“I have my suspicions.” Lukas said

“What?” Tino asked

“I have a few reasons to believe it was her.”

You knew that he was referring to you.  In fact, you could feel all eyes suddenly turn in your direction.  But it wasn't you, right?  The screaming was, but you weren't a dragon.

“Really Lukas?” Mathias asked, “Why do you hate her so much?”

“I don’t hate her.” Lukas countered, “I just don’t trust her.”

After that your mind decided it didn't want to hear anymore and you fell asleep.

OoOoO OoOoO

You stood in darkness.

That was it.  There was nothing else.  Though there wasn't a lack of light, you could still see your hand when you placed it in front of your hand.  Rather; it was a sea of black.

You didn't understand why you were here, but there had to be a reason.  You looked around desperately searching for something- anything.

And you found it.

A small light.

You ran towards it despite the fact that your feet felt like lead.  And when you reached it- you were shocked.  It was a ball of light the size of your palm.  Cautiously you reached out to touch it.  When you did, you were enveloped in warmth.  Your ears were filled with multiple different voices calling out your name.  When you finally brought yourself to break away from the light; you had a realization.

In in this sea of darkness, there was only one memory.

OoOoO OoOoO

“Did you get a good nights rest?” Tino asked

“Yeah.  I slept just fine.  How about you?” You replied

“I slept fine as well.”

“Great.”

You were currently traveling with the group on your way to the Eastern Planes.  This was your third consecutive day since you had met Sadik and Hercules and you were just now starting to leave the snow covered mountains and into long grassy fields.  You kept one hand on your bag as if to protect it from any passing eyes; though there were none.

“By the way,” Mathias brought up “You never told us why you had to go to the Planes with us.”

He was right.  It had completely slipped your mind.

“Oh, I have to deliver something.” You answered

“What?”

“I met two nice men in the town and they said they knew a doctor.  They wanted me to deliver an envelope.”

“A doctor?” Emil asked, he was still unaware that you knew about his shoulder.  You could use this opportunity to get the information out.  Then you wouldn't have to pretend anymore.

“Yeah!  He’s supposedly really good as well.  His specialty is poison.” You hinted

Lukas picked up on it.

“Is that so?” He asked

“Yes.  They trusted me to deliver it; so I will do so.”

Tino gave a sigh; which was rare for him.  He glanced up at Berwald and gave a conflicted look.  Berwald gave him a nod in responce.

“(f/n), since you’re traveling with us now we should tell you the purpose of our journey.” He stated

“Oh?”

“You see; there is a poison that dragons produce that will slowly kill a person.”

“Really?”

“Yes.  We were fighting one and it managed to hit Emil’s shoulder with his claw.”

You gave a fake surprised look.  Though the sense of worry was nothing but true.

“Is he going to be okay?” You asked

“We’re not sure.  That’s why we are headed to the Eastern Planes, to find a doctor.” Tino finished

“So you guys could come with me to find Kiku!”

“Kiku?” Berwald asked

“The doctor.”

“Then that would be a yes.” Tino confirmed

Emil didn't seem to happy about you knowing, Lukas was plain out bothered by it.  You could tell by the way he glared at the ground.  You made a note to try and get him to open up.  But in the meantime you got information out and were now able to converse freely about the subject.

You turned to Mathias and you both shared a victorious grin.
Why is Lukas so cold?  That will be answered next chapter when I out in more back-stories.  Come to think of it- I have only written about Mathias's past.  Oh well~
